I have tried having 4 GiB and 8 GiB allocated for the guest. I have tried having 1, 2, and 4 cores enabled for the guest. This problem is not related to misconfiguration of the number of cores or memory for the guest. Go to applications > right click VirtualBox > Show Package Contents > expand Resources folder > then right click VirtualBoxVM application file >. VirtualBox seemed to run slow but I found the solution was actually to do with resolution. I'm using a Macbook Pro 16' and using VirtualBox 6.1 to run Ubuntu 20, I have installed Guest Additions on Ubuntu. I have never experienced this slow performance before in VirtualBox, something is clearly wrong, but what is it? And how can I fix it? Note: this is not a post about running MacOS on VirtualBox, but running VirtualBox on a Mac. Ubuntus GUI can deal with High DPI displays, just log in to your VM and right click on the desktop and open Display Settings. Give your macOS VM enough RAM - try half of the real RAM on your PC. If your CPU has eight cores, assign four of them to the macOS VM. Setting it to 100 wil shrink whats shown on the VM-Display to the native Retina-Display resolution, but everything gets faster. Check your macOS VM's configuration and assign to it at least half of your actual CPU cores. VirtualBox claims 2D acceleration only works for a Windows guest, so it is disabled. VirtualBox 'Settings' -> 'Display' which was set to 200. It seems like "Enable Nested VT-x/AMD-V" is not possible to select in the options for the guest. Interestingly, glxgears runs seemingly fine, but again, moving the window itself takes seconds and is extremely sluggish. I can verify that the usual vbox modules are running:Įverything works fine in Debian, except that the system is extremely slow.Įven the mouse cursor lags when moved around, on a clean system with nothing running. I have installed the guest additions, no errors. I have Mojave 10.14.3, running VirtualBox 6.0.4 and with Debian 9 (with XFCE) as the guest OS.
